March for Our Lives

Message from Pastor David Collins, organizer of the Port Washington “March for Our Lives” – Saturday, March 24th

WE ARE GATHERING ON THE SIDEWALK BETWEEN VANDERVENTER & BERNARD ST ON PORT WASHINGTON BLVD (hereafter referenced as GATHERING SITE) BETWEEN 6 & 6:30 PM.  THE MARCH WILL BEGIN AT 6:30 PM, SO PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY. THIS IS ACROSS THE STREET FROM WEBER MIDDLE.  If you can’t make it there by then, please meet us at the church for the vigil and call to action.

TWO MINI-BUSES WILL TRANSPORT BETWEEN UMCPW (35 MIDDLE NECK RD) AND THE GATHERING SITE, AND AGAIN AT THE END OF THE VIGIL AT UMCPW.  Though they will make multiple trips, arriving at the last moment may not get you on a bus and you will miss the march, in which case please meet us at the church for the vigil and call to action. .

Please carpool as much as possible!!  If you are able to drop your passengers off at the GATHERING SITE and then park at the church and take the bus, that would be ideal and efficient.  We have 140ish parking spots at UMCPW, let’s use them wisely.

BE PREPARED – The sidewalk may not be 100% cleared on the entire route, please consider this.  If you are worried about the possibility of uncleared sidewalks, please meet us at the church for the vigil and call to action.

The walk is 1.6 miles and we want everyone to stay together.  There are March Marshalls that will keep us moving along nicely.  If you are worried about keeping up, please meet us at the church for the vigil and call to action.

The walk is 1.6 miles – if you’re unsure about the distance, please meet us at the church for the vigil and call to action.

The walk is 1.6 miles and we need to keep moving at a decent speed.

The Vigil and Call to Action will begin no sooner than 7:30 pm and conclude by 9 pm at the latest.  Students are not expected to speak until around 8:20.  For those observing Havdalah, please join us to show the students our support when you are able.

BE PREPARED – It might be cold.

Port Washington Police and Sands Point Police will have a presence during the march to help ensure public safety.

Remember, it is not our intention to be disruptive, but to stand in unity together against gun violence with our children.
