Music Programs
…and rejoicing in the Holy Spirit!

rom its first days in the 1890s as a group of boys and girls who loved to sing hymns, St. Stephen’s has been a musical congregation. In fact, the name of our parish was inspired by the donor of our first organ.

We take our music seriously. Blessed with many talented parishioners and four superb soloists, and led by creative and gifted directors over the years, our choir is second to none in the area. We are an enthusiastic congregation who loves to celebrate our Lord through song.

  • Choral offerings, favorite hymns and canticles brighten Sunday services.
  • Christmas and Easter Festival Services feature sacred works performed and augmented by soloists and instrumentalists.
  • Our Family Carol Service on Christmas Eve is blessed with capacity attendance. It is an inspirational offering from our parish for the birth of our Lord.
  • The Cherub and Chapel Choirs sing several times a year at our regular worship services and occasionally at coffee hour.
  • Winter and spring concerts round out the St. Stephen's music schedule for the year. These have included works by contemporary religious composers (for example, John Rutter’s Requiem) as well as standards such as Handel’s Messiah.
“St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church is a family sharing
God’s love, transforming Christ’s teachings into action,
and rejoicing in the Holy Spirit.”
Join the choir as a full-time member or as a participant in our special
musical events. Rehersals are held on Wednesdays at 7:30 PM,
September to June, in the St. Cecilia Room.

The Orff Music Program

The St. Stephen's Orff Music Program involves children from Nursery through 6th Grade. Sunday morning music occurs during the Sunday School hour and classes are held on Wednesday evening for K-5th grade and on Tuesday mornings for 2, 3 and 4 year olds. The Orff approach involves singing, playing the instruments in the Orff Instrumentarium, improvising and moving to the music. All children are welcome. No prior musical knowledge is required!
